The One True Church

Them's fightin' words! Or so sayeth my buddy who is a Lutheran, and confused about what Catholics believe. The other day he was trying to tell me what an indulgence was...not only was he wrong, but he didn't believe me when I told him what it really was.
"No it isn't."
"Excuse me? What do you mean, 'no it isn't'? Dude, I'm Catholic and you're a protestant."
"I know what it is..."

This is a common thing about Protestants, of whatever denomination. They simply cannot be wrong when talking to a Catholic about what THEY think a Catholic is. The problem is "hubris". You know, they know it all because they have the "Bible" and "know Jesus".

One time, a polite but misled protestant asked me if Catholics were Christians...

Whoa. I thought he was kidding, but soon realized that he was totally sincere. Alright. That's it. Here goes the farm for this guy... "Yeah," I said. "We believe that Jesus is the Son of God."

"Really? I did not know that..."

Then it was my turn: No kidding. Why did you not know that? Did no one ever tell you that Roman Catholicism put together the Bible you read?

What?! When?

...and on it went until he couldn't take the truth any more and walked away. I think I blew his mind because for the first time, he realized that before the 30 years his protestant church had been around, there was a HISTORY that PRECEDED ALL OF PROTESTANTISM by about 1500 years!

That's how it is.
